I provide a comprehensive editing service for knitting, sewing and crochet patterns, including copy editing, proofreading, and technical editing. I have a City & Guilds diploma in hand knit design, and have many years of experience in a variety of crafts, including embroidery and crochet.
I normally edit in Microsoft Word and proofread in PDF. As a Chartered Accountant I’m also used to complicated Excel spreadsheets, so I can help with extracting numbers from a spreadsheet to put into your pattern. This can help to avoid errors creeping in.
The work that I carry out includes checking that:
- the yarn, fabrics and other requirements, gauge and abbreviations are accurate and consistent.
- the pattern is clear and readable.
- all the maths and measurements make sense.
- the style is consistent throughout the pattern.
I’m happy working with garments and accessories, including complicated pieces with colour work, lace, and cables. I mainly work with UK terminology.
